Sacred Tree Yoga supports both:
the Prison Yoga Project and Rosie's Place
Prison Yoga Project
Prison Yoga Project provides trauma-informed, mindfulness-based yoga directly to prisoners around the world to support their transformation and rehabilitation. Angela, creator of Sacred Tree, was trained by James Fox, Founder of The Prison Yoga Project. Since her training in May 2019, she volunteers on a weekly basis at Massachusetts Correctional Institute Men's Medium Security Prison in Norfolk. The men are respectful, curious, and attentive. The weekly one-hour asana practice is followed by a one-hour book discussion that stimulates conversations that are gateways for healing the body, mind, and spirit. Her dedication to this project is to reduce recidivism. Through proper programs, we can make our communities a safer place.
Please make a donation for the books behind bars.
Checks can be made payable to Sacred Tree Yoga Gift fund and mailed to Sacred Tree Yoga at 65 Holbrook St. Mailbox 2 Norfolk, MA 02056.
Angela's long term goal is to bring a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training Certification to MCI Norfolk.
Rosie's Place, located at 889 Harrison Ave in Boston, was founded in 1974 as the first women’s shelter in the United States. Their mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment that helps poor and homeless women maintain their dignity, seek opportunity and find security in their lives. Today, Rosie’s Place not only provides meals and shelter but also creates answers for 12,000 women a year through wide-ranging support, housing and education services. Rosie’s Place relies solely on the generous support of individuals, foundations and corporations and does not accept any city, state or federal funding. Thanks to these donations, 85 cents of every dollar raised goes directly to services for poor and homeless women.
For November and December each year, collections are taken for NEW ONLY winter jackets, hats, gloves, sweatshirts, sweatpants, socks, underwear, sports bras and PJs. Drop off at the studio and the items will be mailed to Rosie's.
